I develop new technology to monitor cow health and welfare in my workshop in Glasgow. I learned about OpenWetWare through the IBE site of which I used to be member, and I've joined because I would like to work to improve cow welfare and productivity while reducing the environmental impact. I am looking to work with anyone who can use my skill to develop equipment, sponsor and supervise student projects.
Education
- 1993, PhD, Cranfield University, Automation of Milking
- 1987, MSc, Silsoe College, Cranfield University
- 1985, BA (Hons), Open University
Research interests
- Wireless sensor platforms to monitor cow movement and the analysis of data to detect illness from that
- Wireless rumen pH sensors to measure and detect SARA
- Ear tag pulse oximetry
- in-line milk sensors
- effect of cows on the environment
- role of dairy farming in creating a balanced diet and environment
Publications
All my publications are available to download free from "http://www.ecow.co.uk" You can also see videos on cow breath sampling and robotic milking dating from the 1990s.
