Research Interests
Fuel ethanol production from plant biomass hydrolysates by Saccharomyces cerevisiae is of great economic and environmental significance. And the fermentation of xylose is essential for the bioconversion of lignocellulose. The objective of my research is to build up an efficient xylose transporting system in yeast S. cerevisiae, for solving the current limitations in improving fermentation of xylose to ethanol. My work will seek to isolate heterogenous xylose transporters via conventional and novel approaches, and properly express them in engineered S. cerevisiae to enhance the xylose fermentation to ethanol.
