Hey Axel,

I noticed that you were making use of Help:Hosting courses and the sample course OWW.101 for 840.119. That's great. I am still in the process of trying to put the help pages for courses together so if you have any feedback, revisions or other useful tutorials you'd recommend, I'd love to hear it. You can of course edit the help pages yourself if you like.

Thanks,

Print page problems

Hi Reshma,

the Help:Hosting courses page is just fine. I found it easy to work with. However, as I tried to print the page using the 'printable version' function, the page did not print after the first graphics. It looked fine on the screen but the printout contained only the text until the first graph - nothing beyond. It does not seem to be a problem with my printer (HP Laserjet 1320) since the same thing happened when i printed to a PDF file (to generate a PDF output). I have no clue how to fix this and just wanted to let you know.

Have a good day, Axel

Hey Axel,

Looks like you found a pretty subtle bug. It should be fixed now. Thanks so much for pointing this out!

Naming of project pages

Hey Axel,

I changed 840.119:Projects so that each of the links pointed to 840.119:project 1 rather than just project 1. I thought this might help flag those pages as belonging to your class project so that others don't edit the pages. Hope this ok! Let me know if not.

Thanks,

Course Template not autmatically activated

Hi Reshma, thanks for taking care of the project page titles. That makes sense.

Regarding the course template I was just wondering why the subpages of my course like "people", "projects", and "help" do not make use of the template. Do I have to tell the system that I want to use the template (activate it)? How?

Best regards,

Hi Axel,

Yes you need to include the line {{Template:840.119}} at the top of the page in order for the template to be included. But it looks like you've already figured that out!  :)

Hi Reshma,

Yes, I figured that out just before you replied. thanks anyway.

However, when I re-edited the course help-page of the course 840.119, the first line containing the code pointing to the template had disappeared and I re-entered it again. The same result and I did it once more - ending up with a source code not showing any of the links to the template but the acutal page showing three copies of the header graphics from the template. Strange! At a later attempt all three copies of the line pointing to the template were visible in the source code of 840.119:help and I deleted two of the extra copies. The page then looked normal and contained just one instance of the template graphics - as anticipated. But now again, I cannot remove this line (which I actually do not wanna do) from the source code of the page because again it is not visible. I dont know if that's a problem of my system only (which is brandnew). Not a big problem but I just wanted to let you know about it.

Best regards, Axel

Hey Axel,

I think the problem is which edit link you are using. If you use the edit link at the top of the page that looks like then you will be able to edit the entire contents of the page (and see {{Template:840.119}}. If you use the edit link on the right side of the page, next to Developing your project webpage at openwetware.org then you are editing only that section of the page and therefore won't see the {{Template:840.119}} because that is in a different section. The section edit links enable people to be editing different parts of the same page at the same time.

Let me know if this makes sense and if it solves your problem.
