Week 1 Feedback

Here is the feedback to your Week 1 journal assignment.

  • You were excused from completing the assignment by the Week 1 deadline because of issues with registering for an OpenWetWare account. However, your assignment is incomplete with many tasks left undone. Your shared journal assignment was completed well after the date by which you said you would finish the assignment.
  • The grade for this assignment is posted on the MyLMUConnect Grade Center for this course. You will be able to earn back the points you missed on this assignment by completing the requested revisions below by the Week 3 journal assignment deadline of midnight on Tuesday, February 3 (Monday night/Tuesday morning).
    • Every time you make a change to a wiki page, please type something in the summary field (found above the "Save page" button). It appears that you did not do this at all for this assignment.
    • Please link your name on the course People page to your user page.
    • For your e-mail address, you either need to make this an "mailto" link or create a link to e-mail you through OpenWetWare.
    • Please provide a list of upper division courses you have taken in biology, chemistry, math, and computer science that you have taken.
    • To make this page more like a professional resume or CV, you should provide additional information about your work experience such as jobs held, which companies, dates of employment.
    • Please provide any information about your personal interests and hobbies.
    • Please answer the questions as to which are your favorite aspects of biology and mathematics.
    • As of the Week 1 deadline, you did not create a new wiki page, although you have since created one.
    • Please link to an external web site.
    • You do not currently have any "third" level subheadings (three equals signs or more). Be sure to utilize this feature to organize content on your journal pages.
    • Please create a numbered list.
    • Please "comment out" a portion of your wiki code. The only comments that are there right now are the ones automatically generated by OpenWetWare when they created the page for you.
    • Please upload an image file and display it on your page.
    • Please upload a non-image file and link to it on your user page. Other students have uploaded resume's or scientific presentations they have done, for example.
    • You used the wrong category name for your page, due to a typo. The proper category is [[Category:BIOL398-04/S15]], not [[Category:BIOL98-04/S15]].
    • Your template is currently a "redlink" with no content on the page. Populate your template with lists of the Assignment pages, individual journal pages, and shared journal pages, as well as the course category. Then invoke your template on your user page and all subsequent individual journal pages.
    • Please link to Week 1 Assignment page. Note, if you fill out your template, you will easily be able to fulfill this part of subsequent assignments automatically.
    • Please remove the "I am a new user" template from your user page and remove the double helix picture (or replace it). You can also remove the OpenWetWare automated text from the bottom of this talk page.

I've answered your question on my User talk page. Kam D. Dahlquist 21:32, 29 January 2015 (EST)

Answer from Dr. Fitzpatrick

You asked 'Dr. Fitzpatrick, what subjects of physics have you worked with?'

I've worked on a number of physically-based problems, but more from an engineering point of view. I've done some mechanics, particularly solid and fluid mechanics, mostly trying to infer material parameters from experimental observations, but in some cases designing algorithms to stabilize or otherwise control a system. For a lot of years, I've collaborated on laser beam control problems. These have involved using image sequences to point a laser at a target and using high-rate cameras and mirrors to remove platform jitter from tracking signals.

Hello, Jeffrey Crosson! This is a welcome message from OpenWetWare. By the way, we've announced you on the home page! You can leave messages to any OWW member by editing their User_talk pages like this one. And don't forget to personalize your User Page so that we can get to know you better! We've included some tips below to get you started.

Basic Wiki Instructions

  • Don't be afraid to edit! As with all pages on the wiki, all versions are saved so its easy to undo. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email.
  1. Start off by clicking the 'edit' button to the right of this section, or at the top of the page.
  2. Now you should see the text of this section as text within an editor box. There are several buttons in the editor box, but don't worry about those for now. Just type something in the box, scroll down to the bottom, and hit the 'Preview' button.
  3. You should see the web-page and text box views, but now with your edits! Don't forget to save your changes by clicking 'Save Page'!
  4. Editing pages is as easy as that. There are of course many ways to format your text. The easiest way to learn is to find an OWW page with the formatting you like, click on the edit button again, and see for yourself how it was created in the text box. Here's an extensive list of formating examples. Or look at this OpenWetWare introductory tutorial.
  5. When you are done, remove these instructions by clicking the edit button for this section again, erase everything you see in the text box and click 'Save Page'. (And remember you can always retrieve these by clicking on the 'history' tab at the top of this page.)

Note that these instructions apply to any page on OWW. Feel free to contribute to OWW by editing pages to add content, update them, or even correct mistakes. OWW relies on an active community to manage our growing resource of open access information, and we need your help!

Personal/Lab Info

We have gone ahead and filled in some information you provided us in your membership application on your User Page. Please take a moment to embellish this and tell the community a little more about you. Put links to your lab pages, your projects and your interests. If you run out of ideas, take a look at some of the other User pages. For example, check out User:Julius_B._Lucks, User:Jason_R._Kelly and User:Reshma_P._Shetty.

You'll also notice that we have put an 'image' placeholder at the top of your User Page. We encourage you to upload an image of yourself to give OWW a more personal feel. To upload an image, click on the Upload file link on the left-hand side (toolbar). Choose a file from your computer, and remember the file name. After you have uploaded the image, you should see it loaded on its own page. Go back to your User Page, click on edit, and replace 'OWWEmblem.png' with the name of your file that you have uploaded in the second line of this page.
