Week 7 Feedback

Your model is a good first cut but needs some work to become more useful.

• The dV/dt equation is said to represent CO2 production rate. Do you mean rate or concentration?
• Does a higher yeast biomass lead to higher levels of CO2? Does this equation need a unit-conversion constant due to the ratio of CO2 to yeast?
• Both the Glucose and CO2 equations need to be rethought. Something needs to feed back to the Glucose equation to encourage consumption during fermentation and inhibit consumption during respiration. Is that CO2 or something else? The Albertin paper suggests yeast biomass level is related, and you've made a first attempt at including yeast in CO production. The feedback to Glucose consumption is missing.
• Please modify your model to (1) improve the CO2 equation model and (2) feedback appropriate information into Glucose.

Week 3 Feedback

I have reviewed your Week 3 individual and shared assignments.

• While your individual assignment was on time, your shared journal entry was 5 minutes late. Starting your assignments well in advance of the deadline is advised.
• Your definitions and outline were complete.
• You listed the references that you used for the definitions in the References section. However, since there were no in text citations next to the definitions, it was unclear which references went with which citations.
  • There were 9 references for the 10 definitions, so it was unclear whether a single reference got used twice or one was missing.
  • Also, please include the DOI number in your citations style for journal articles. Google Scholar does not provide this automatically; you will need to look at the article itself to get it (or use PubMed).
• In your shared reflection you noted that you were still having some difficulty with the figures. I hope that the in class discussion cleared that up. Please let me know if anything is still unclear.

Week 1 Redux

I reviewed the updates you made to the Week 1 assignment. You wrote something in the summary field for 49 out of the last 50 contributions; excellent work! All of the requested changes were made on time, except for the following:

• You did not include a list of the Assignment pages on your template, for example to the Week 1, Week 2 assignments, etc. You should fix this right away to be in compliance with each week's individual assignment instructions.

Week 1 Feedback

• Thank you for submitting your Week 1 assignment on time (but just barely!).
• You can delete the text on this page that was automatically placed by OWW (or keep it if you want).
• You completed all the tasks in this assignment except for the following:
  • Under career interests and goals, you should probably say explicitly that you are interested in medicine.
  • You wrote something in the summary field 31 out of 33 times (94%) on your user page, excellent work! However, you are overusing the "minor edit" checkbox. Reserve that for when you are fixing syntax only or fixing a typo, not when you are adding new content.
  • You have incorrectly formatted links internal to the OWW wiki as external links. The links work, but I want you to practice the correct syntax. Internal link use double square brackets and just the name of the wiki page (and optional label separated by a | symbol).
  • You have a stray bullet in the list about the Dahlquist lab because you started that list with two asterisks (**) instead of having an item with just one asterisk in a line above it.
  • By linking to the Dahlquist lab publications page, you are indirectly implying that you have authored a paper there. You could call the link "Dahlquist Lab publications" or just not include it.
  • You did not put a category on your user page, nor your template. Please add it to your template and it will then be there wherever you invoke the template.
  • Your template was created but not invoked. All that is on it is a link to your user page. As discussed in class today, you should make a list on your template of all the course assignment pages, your individual journal entries, the shared class entries, and a link to your User page, as well as the category, mentioned above.
  • You are missing the References section, which is mandatory for all journal entries, even if the only citation is to the assignment page.
  • You should go ahead and remove the New User banner from your user page.
• You can make up the points you lost on this assignment by completing these requested changes by the Week 3 deadline, midnight Feb. 2.
• I'm glad that the Stewart and Janovy readings made you more confident about seeing yourself as a mathematician and biologist!

You can leave messages to any OWW member by editing their User_talk pages like this one. And don't forget to personalize your User Page so that we can get to know you better! Basic Wiki Instructions

• Don't be afraid to edit! As with all pages on the wiki, all versions are saved so its easy to undo. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email.

1. Start off by clicking the 'edit' button to the right of this section, or at the top of the page.
2. Now you should see the text of this section as text within an editor box. There are several buttons in the editor box, but don't worry about those for now. Just type something in the box, scroll down to the bottom, and hit the 'Preview' button.
3. You should see the web-page and text box views, but now with your edits! Don't forget to save your changes by clicking 'Save Page'!
4. Editing pages is as easy as that. There are of course many ways to format your text. The easiest way to learn is to find an OWW page with the formatting you like, click on the edit button again, and see for yourself how it was created in the text box. Here's an extensive list of formating examples. Or look at this OpenWetWare introductory tutorial.
5. When you are done, remove these instructions by clicking the edit button for this section again, erase everything you see in the text box and click 'Save Page'. (And remember you can always retrieve these by clicking on the 'history' tab at the top of this page.)

Note that these instructions apply to any page on OWW. Feel free to contribute to OWW by editing pages to add content, update them, or even correct mistakes. OWW relies on an active community to manage our growing resource of open access information, and we need your help!

Personal/Lab Info

We have gone ahead and filled in some information you provided us in your membership application on your User Page. Please take a moment to embellish this and tell the community a little more about you. Put links to your lab pages, your projects and your interests. If you run out of ideas, take a look at some of the other User pages. For example, check out User:Julius_B._Lucks, User:Jason_R._Kelly and User:Reshma_P._Shetty.

You'll also notice that we have put an 'image' placeholder at the top of your User Page. We encourage you to upload an image of yourself to give OWW a more personal feel. To upload an image, click on the Upload file link on the left-hand side (toolbar). Choose a file from your computer, and remember the file name. After you have uploaded the image, you should see it loaded on its own page. Go back to your User Page, click on edit, and replace 'OWWEmblem.png' with the name of your file that you have uploaded in the second line of this page.
