Short responses: can you look at our textbook 2e? It has a whole section on Synthetic Biology. Some of my thoughts about what you might want to include are in there.

It sounds to me like you are working on a full textbook. This would be a great service to a lot of people. I was speaking to some CS types, and they wanted a book on "biology for computer scientists" with regards to synthetic biology. I think you have put your figure on a big need - one that would actually help the entire field progress by widening the circle of players who can enter the game.

I'd be happy to brain storm with you on this. I think it is important and could be very fun.
