Procedure

  • We downloaded the data set from our paper and calculated the following values:
    • The average intensity value for the three samples of 12C Carbon-limiting, 30C Carbon-limiting, 12C Nitrogen-limiting and 30C Nitrogen-limiting
    • Using these averages we calculated two ratios: (12C Carbon Limiting Average/ 30C Carbon limiting average) and (12C Nitrogen-limiting Avg./ 30C Nitrogen-limiting Avg.)
    • We took the log2 of the resulting ratio
    • Finally, ran a TTEST between the 12C and 30C data for both Carbon-limiting cultures and Nitrogen-limiting cultures

Dataset containing these calculated columns

  • Sanity Check: We used an Excel function to find the number of genes that were significantly different according to our ttest:
    • For C-limiting data: 2232 of 9336 were significant
    • For N-limiting data: 2333 of 9336 were significant
    • For Both: 942 of 9336 significant
