If you are interested in future opportunities you may contact me directly at jan.pruszak@anat.uni-freiburg.de
Applications should include a CV with cover letter and list of publications.

Postdoctoral scientists

We are looking for highly motivated team players with a strong interest in developmental biology, cell biology and/or regenerative medicine. Applicants should hold a PhD in biology or a related subject. Candidates should have strong expertise and publication record in molecular biology, cell biology/biochemistry, as well as good knowledge of English.
A postdoctoral position to investigate the role of Hippo/YAP signaling in neural development of human stem cell systems is available starting as early as January 2015.

The overall goal of our research is to elucidate mechanisms of cell-cell communication that govern growth and differentiation in the context of neural development. Our studies focus primarily on the role of surface molecule- as well as diffusible factor-mediated cell interactions in the regulation of downstream signaling cascades and cell-specific gene expression. As the main model system we utilize human pluripotent stem cells (embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells), exploiting the unique opportunity to study and modulate human neural development in an accessible in vitro system. This work has implications for fundamental neurobiology, as well as for neurooncology and regenerative approaches.

The University of Freiburg is one of the top universities in Germany with particular strength and a rich interdisciplinary environment in medicine and the natural sciences. Freiburg is located in the heart of Europe with excellent access to recreational possibilities in the Black Forest, France and Switzerland.

The successful applicant will join a small, highly-motivated young team and is encouraged to work independently while contributing to joint projects and to participate in international collaborations. The position is initially available for one year with the possibility for extension.

Applications should include a CV with a cover letter, statement of research experience/interests and the contact details of two references, as well as potential sources of external funding. Please submit your application electronically as a pdf to: jan.pruszak@anat.uni-freiburg.de

PhD students

We are looking for motivated team players with a sportive spirit and strong interest in developmental biology, cell biology and regenerative medicine. Applicants should hold a masters or diploma in biology, biochemistry or a related subject. Practical experience in molecular biology, biochemistry cell culture and/or animal work is beneficial but not required. Good knowledge of English is essential.

The successful applicant will join a small, highly-motivated, young and international team. A limited number of positions is available that cover the salary for the period of the PhD studies (approximately three years). Alternatively, applications generating external funding may be considered. Our lab is also associated with the local International Spemann Graduate School of Biology and Medicine (SGBM). Applications should include a CV with a specific letter of motivation, statement of research experience/interests and the contact details of two references. Technicians

The technical personnel in our newly established group is expected to work closely together with scientists and students. If you are interested in joining an enthusiastic young team, have some hands-on experience in basic cell and molecular biological techniques, and you like to think and work independently, please send an e-mail to: jan.pruszak@anat.uni-freiburg.de to learn more about open positions. Applications in German and English are welcome.

Bewerbungen auf Deutsch und Englisch sind willkommen. Bitte nehmen Sie zunächst Kontakt per E-Mail auf, um die Verfügbarkeit von offenen Stellen zu klären.
