Project Description/AbstractZebrafish ([Danio rerio]) has become an important model organism to study vertebrate development over the last couple of decades. The scientific journey of zebrafish, which began in the Ganges after the first description in the Western literature by Hamilton Buchanan in 1822, reached the laboratory of Dr.George Streisinger in the late 1970s. The work that started in Dr.Streisinger's lab has resulted in an amazing body of knowledge in genetics and cell biology of lower vertebrates. After over thirty years of research in different countries, zebrafish came full circle to the scientific laboratories in India. These webpages will describe the zebrafish research being carried out in India.
