Entry title

Objective

Study the effects of [Au]/[BSA] ratio on fiber formation.

Description

  1. Solutions of Au and BSA were set-up in microcentrifuge tubes in the following ways:
Tube Number 1 2 3 4 5 6
Amount of 2.9mM HAuCl4 100 μL 120 μL 150 μL 180 μL 200 μL 250 μL
Amount of 17.7μM BSA 100 μL 100 μL 100 μL 100 μL 100 μL 100 μL
Amount of Distilled Water 800 μL 780 μL 750 μL 720 μL 700 μL 650 μL
Ratio [Au]/[BSA] 163.842 196.91 245.763 294.915 327.684 409.605

2. All of the mixtures were placed on the heat block at 80°C for three hours.

Data

  • A picture of the microcentrifuge tubes:

All of the tubes had some sort of fibers, but tubes 1 and 2 had the purple fibers. The other tubes have yellow/golden fibers. All the fibers formed when the microcentrifuge tubes were removed from the heat block.
