Remains of the Day
- Addressed concerns on Australian mile-stone report 108
- Analyze root TRFLP from rep 2 of the TVD growth room experiment (didn't do)
- Found a folder in the Tomato Project folder with yield and plant data on the 10 TVD fields. Plants on field 1 were the largest and most productive, plants on field 8 appeared to be the worst, however field 8 is supposedly healthy while 1 and 7 are TVD (all three planted with the same genotype). It appears that Amy and Ian sampled 5 plants per field for rhizosphere soil, extracted DNA from these, and then that is what was sent to Saskatoon for pyrosequencing - I could not find DNA from these plants here in our freezers, but the DNA I had previously found is likely bulk soil DNA. Since bulk soil DNA does not show the same relationships as the rhizosphere ones did, this is good evidence that any diagnostic test for farmers would indeed require a bioassay to comprable rhizosphere DNA for comparison (as I'd suggested in the potato experiment).
