[Ru(bpy)2(phen-IA)](PF6)2

This entry is a continuation of Nick's Notebook.


  • The [Ru(bpy)2(phen-IA)](PF6)2 solution was filtered.
  • The product was precipitated by the addition of a saturated aqueous solution of NH4PF6.
  • Using filtration, the orange solid product was collected, washed with H2O and allowed to dry.


Procedure from Castellano, Dattelbaum, and Lakowicz's, "Long-Lifetime Ru(II) Complexes as Labeling Reagents for Sulfhydryl Groups."


Calculating Yield (mmol)

31 C = 31(12.01 g/mol) = 372.31 g/mol 1 Ru = 101.07 g/mol 7 N = 7(14.01) = 98.07 g/mol 24 H = 24.24 g/mol

Sum (g/mol) = 595.69 g/mol

Mass of product: 0.7332 g

0.7332g/ (595.69 g/mol) = 0.001231 mol

0.001231 mol × (1000 mmol/mol) = 1.231 mmol
