Project Description

Abstract

  • The overall purpose of this project is to support the development of the Biomaterials Design Laboratory (BDL) in the Chemistry Department at American University. The BDL is a student run and operated advanced laboratory course (CHEM-571) in the chemistry department.
  • As support for the BDL, I will be investigating the properties of the zein film and the incorporation of gold nanoparticles into the film.

Individual Project Tasks

  1. Zein Film Properties
    • Thermal Properties
    • Viscoelastic Properties
    • Crystalline Properties
  2. Gold Nanoparticle Incorporation
    • AA Flame/Emission Spectroscopy
    • Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) & Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) trials
  3. Solution Preparations
    • stock solution standardizations
    • chlorauric acid & BSA solutions
  4. BSA-AuNP Biosensors
    • CV & EIS
    • electrochemical response of Fe(CN)63-/Fe(CN)64- redox couple
    • electrochemical response of redox co-factor
