Observations: no particles were formed after oven incubation. Therefore, it was concluded that pH of the solutions were too low. New solutions were prepared for each amino acid with basic pH values based on different rations of Au:AA:NaOH (table 4)

1. Solution preparation

4 different ratios were prepared for each of the 3 amino acids: phenylalanine, isoleucine, and arginine (total of 12 solutions). Ratios are volumetric i.e, based on volumes.

Table 4: solutions ratios and volumes

2. Theoretical pH calculations

sample calculation for 1:1:1 ratio solution with 5mM NaOH 1*10^-3 L(of HAuCl4)* 2.5*10^-3M (HAuCl4)= 2.5*10^-6 moles H n solution 1*10^-3 L(of NaOH)*5*10^-3M(NaOH)= 5*10^-6 moles of OH in solution

by neutralization: 5*10^-6 (moles of OH) - 2.5*10^-6 (moles of H)= 2.5*10^-6 moles of OH in excess

Concentration of OH in solution= (2.5*10^-6moles)/(10*10^-3L of total solution)= 2.5*10^-4 M OH

pOH= -log(2.5*10^-4)= 3.60205

pH= 14-pOH= 14- 3.60205= 10.33979

samples were placed in oven at 80C for 4 hours
