Welcome to Renhao Li Lab We are interested in membrane proteins and receptors because they are one of the frontiers in protein research and because they are often drug targets that are closely associated with diseases. Our research centers around the following questions: How do membrane receptors transmit signals across the cell membrane? How do certain function or malfunction of membrane receptors lead to diseases? How are these functions regulated by intracellular and extracellular signals? How can we modulate membrane receptors to combat diseases? We focus on membrane receptors involved in cardiovascular and immune diseases. We take a multidisciplinary approach, using a wide array of techniques in molecular biology, structural biology, cell biology, and bioengineering. Recent Updates 7/2012: Renhao gave a talk on GPIb-IX at the 2012 Hemostasis Gordon Conference. 7/2012: Dr. Xin Liang joined the lab as a postdoc fellow. 6/2012: Xi's paper on GPV association with GPIb-IX is accepted by JTH! 6/2012: The lab went bowling! 4/2012: Biweekly Friday happy hour starts. 1/2012: Dr. Kai Huang joined the lab as a postdoc fellow. 12/2011: Rong's paper showing the reconstitution of GPIb-IX complex into Nanodiscs is published in Biochemistry. It was one of the papers featured on the journal web site. 11/2011: Wenjun's paper showing, for the first time, a 3-dimensional structural model of the GPIb-IX complex is out in Blood! This model captures everything we know about the GPIb-IX complex, and also raises a number of interesting questions. It is published with a companion commentary on Blood. 11/2011: Dr. Liang Zhou joined the lab as a postdoc fellow. Mr. Sung Yun Cho joined the lab as a technician. 8/2011: We completed the move from UTHealth to Emory. Go to Gallery for some snapshots.
