News! 28/03/08 - Lab complete! Laura back from the Canadian Arctic expedition. 14/03/08 - Invited talk by Annelie Perthaler (http://www.ufz.de/index.php?en=13987). 11/02/08 - Stefan at GLEON (Global Lake Ecological Observatory Network) meeting in Lake Placid, Florida (www.gleon.org). Back in lab Feb 14. 06/02/08 - Our lab has been granted a CMS project to map the Baltic Sea microflora with 454-technology. 21/01/08 - Laura Alonso-Saez leaving for a 2 month "freeze-in" expedition in the Arctic Ocean. Back in lab March 25. 01/01/14 - Updated schedule for 10 ECTS Undergraduate course "Microbial Diversity -From Genomes to Processes" spring 2008 [1] 01/01/08 - We now have access to the most recent version of "Prokaryotes" through the University Library [2]

Research

The Microbial Ecology group is part of the Limnology program at the Department of Ecology & Evolution, EBC, Uppsala University. The research carried out in the group is focused on understanding the roles of microorganisms in aquatic food-webs and biogeochemical cycles. We address the role of microbial diversity in controlling processes at the community and ecosystem-level using an array of culture-independent molecular methods. We also design and perform laboratory and field experiments to address these questions and our continued research aims at revealing relationships between function and identity at the level of individuals, populations and communities.
