Objective

  • Reproduce the films formed by JCS 4 & 5

Protocol

  • Following the original procedure
  1. 5 mM mercury nitrate (solution from October 7th) was added to 5 mL of 15 mg/mL BSA solution (151.3 mg in 10 mL of HPLC water, made today)
  2. two drops of 1 M NaOH added to each, pH ~10
  3. The heating mantle doesn't seem to be working so both reactions will be run at room temperature
  • total reaction time: 48 hrs

Observations

  • The three samples stored in the cold room since last week seem to be forming foils on the sides of the scintillation vials. They reflect light in an array of colors.
