My name is Bill Flanagan. I just started this week as a technical developer on OpenWetWare. I'm located in Cambridge at the MIT Department of Biology. I'm not a biologist and I don't intend to play one on the web. I look forward to learning how (you) biologists do your work. I intend to do as much as I can to translate what I learn into programs and systems that make OpenWetWare more useful to all of you.

My background is working with online collaboration systems. I worked for Lotus as an architect on what now is IBM's "Software By Lotus"  Lotus Notes.

If you need to reach me, I'll be monitoring and updating the Software pages of OpenWetWare. My email address is still a work in progress. I'll get it out as soon as I have a permanent one from MIT.

Dear Bill, is there any (lets hope simple...) way to have popularity count ("This page has been accessed 178 times.") included in a list, i.e. http://openwetware.org/wiki/Wikiomics ? Best, [[User:Darek Kedra|darked]] 09:33, 10 December 2007 (CST)

Darek,

I noticed the way it's done on Wikiomics. We use s custom recentchanges extension but I know the info is still available. I'll look at it when I get in. My battery is about to die!

This will only show the number of edits and not the number of reads: caching isn't a big issue but I just don't think the info is tracked. A better way to track usage is via Google Analytics, out current use tracking solution. I can set you up with access if you want to see how often the pages are being read there.
