Glass bottles, glass flasks

  • wash in dishwasher (Cycle 1: Glassware)
  • autoclave (Cycle 5: 30 min sterilization, 30 min dry)
  • place on shelves in tissue culture support room (76-286)

Centrifuge bottles, Tunair flasks

  • wash in dishwasher (Cycle 6: Plastics)
  • place on shelves in tissue culture support room (76-286)
  • NOTE: plastic bottles and flasks to be autoclaved as needed by user

do not wash filters in Tunair flask caps

Spatulas, stir bars

  • wash in dishwasher (Cycle 1: Glassware)
  • place in containers on table in incubator / shaker room (76-284)

Pipet tips, microcentrifuge tubes, culture tubes

  • autoclave (Cycle 5: 30 min sterilization, 30 min dry)
  • place on shelves in dishwasher / autoclave room (76-292)
  • place some on table in main lab (76-291)

Pasteur pipettes

  • autoclave (Cycle 5: 30 min sterilization, 30 min dry)
  • place on shelves in tissue culture room (76-285)

Biohazard Waste

  • autoclave (Cycle 1: 90 min sterilization)
  • allowed to cool, then place each bag into a black plastic bag, secure, and set in hallway
  • NOTE: just before autoclaving, open up waste bags to allow in steam during cycle

Biohazard Sharps

  • transport all full sharps bins to the accumulation room
  • bring empty bins from the accumulation area to the tissue culture support room
  • NOTE: empty bins are stored in the tissue culture support room (76-286)
             full bins are stored in the incubator / shaker room (76-284)
             the general accumulation area is room 76-268 (key on lab whiteboard)

Gel Buffers

  • TAE, MES, MOPS, and transfer buffers are in room 76-287
  • ensure all buffers are above refill line throughout the week

By the end of the day on Friday...

  • unwashed glassware < 1 load
  • biohazard waste < 2 bags
