Today we began work on our project. We gathered tissue from the peel as well as the inner fruit. The tissue samples were ground into fine powder in a mortar & pestle using liquid nitrogen. Ground tissue was saved in the -80ºC freezer.. Using a small quantity of these tissues, we attempted DNA extraction using the "DNeasy Mini Bench Protocol."
