Preparing antibiotics

Recipe for preparing ampicillin stocks.

Reagents

  • Ampicillin Sodium Salt, 0.4 ml
  • Autoclaved dH20, 4 ml

Makes 10 aliquots of 0.4ml ampicillin.

Protocol

  1. Label 10 autoclaved 1.5 ml tubes
  2. Mix 4 ml of dH20 with 0.4g of ampicillin in Falcon tube.
  3. Aliquot into 1.5 ml tubes, and keep at -20°C
    Note: Should be viable for 6 months.
    Note: Activity is reduced by 15 % after 24 hours, 33 % after 48 hours and 65 % after 7 days at +4°C.
