Task list

  • Make red cabbage dye
  • Initial analysis of the beads made

Make red cabbage dye

  • Cut the red cabbage into small pieces (about 0.1 to 1 inch squared)
  • Put the cabbage in hot DI water and let them sit for 2 hours
  • Occasionally stir the beads

Initial analysis of beads

  • After freeze drying, the beads turned greenish gray and clumped together into chunks; grinding or shaking the falcon tubes did not break the chunks down well
    • The higher the percentage of clay, the greener the beads
  • Masses of the beads are recorded here
  • The beads were put in water, in hope that they would reswell. We put as much water as needed for all the chunks to be submerged.
    • Photos of the beads being submerged in water are here
