Introduction to the Course
Being the first day of the course, we ran a few simple experiments and made a couple of simple solutions:
- A 100 mL solution of 1.71 mM NaCl in H2O
- 10 mL of 13.5 µM methylene blue dye from an 87 ppm stock
- 50 mL of HCl with the same concentration as the HAuCl4
The experiments we ran were:
- Water densities versus temperature
- 10 1 mL samples of H2O were massed to determine the density at room temperature
- Water was rinsed in "clean" glassware, and a UV-VIS was run to determine if the glassware was clean
- DI,tap, and HPLC water was tested for conductivity and pH
- Conductivity (μS/cm)
- Tap - 494
- DI - 90.4
- HPLC - 132
- pH
- Tap - 7.42
- DI - 5.8
- HPLC - 6.03
