Precision & Accuracy of Pipetters

Table of water densities v temperature At least 6, more than 10 preferred

Preparing Solutions

Prepare 100 mL of 1.71 mM NaCl from solid Prepare 10 mL of 13.5 M dye from stock & wet flasks Reagent Purities Is that CaCl2 really anhydrous? (KFT, DSC) Is that glassware really clean? (UV, ISE, Fluor) Is DI water pure? (ISE, AgNO3, Cond)

Preparation of Stock Solutions

100 mL 200 ppm Malachite green 100 mL 3 wt% bentonite solution 200 mL water + 40 g Na2SO4 + 4 mL H2SO4 (conc.) 250 mL 1.0 M HCl solution 250 mL 0.2 M sodium bicarbonate solution

Preparation of PVOH film

1 g PVOH in 12 mL of water Heat (covered w/ watchglass) to ~ 70 °C until dissolved Stir to remove any film forming on top Add 0.5 mL 8% glutaraldehyde Stir briefly and transfer to Teflon dish

## Notes

weight of vial with cap and sticker: 14.86452 g. vial 2: 14.9017 vial: 5 drops = 50 microliter = 0.05 ml ~ 0.05 g

5 drops: 14.91830 10 : 14.96644 15: 15.01317 20: 15.06537 25: 15.12257 30: 15.16976

Karl - Fischer caulometer to measure current , bc current means there is water in the sample (redox reaction with DMF)

calculate NaOH: 1.71/1000 mol per liter 1.71 / 1000 * (22.9889 + 35.453) = 0.09993 grams for 1 liter for 100 ml we need 0.009993 grams

prepared solution in 100 ml flask, added a little too much water

dye: Rhodamin6G Rh6G molar mass: 479.02 g/mol. fluoresecent. yellow with UV lamp.

converted from 2233 ppm to 486 micro molar . M2 is given, V2 is given. V1 needs to be found.

M1V1 = M2V2 V1 = 0.277 ml

water: measure purity of tap water, DI, HPLC, and LCMS via pH and conductivity. minimal conductivity and pH close to 7 means purest, i.e. least amount of mineral ions.

Malachite green: Molar mass: 364.911 g/mol 0.02 grams needed for .1 L of 200 ppm

prepared clay in addition to Bentonite
