Objective

Because previous gold NPs syntheses produce irregular results (according to the formation of fibers; the color of the solution...); we are going to test two different variables:

  1. The temperature in the oven may vary during the experiment because it's open frequently; today we are going to use a heatblock with provides a more constant temperature.
  2. The cleanliness of the test tubes; we are going to wash test tubes with acidic to remove every biological material. In previous experiments, we observed that fibers are attached to the walls of tubes; tubes maybe be durty and the dirt could form a nucleation point for fibers

Description

  • Gold NPs synthesis:
  1. Tube A: 0.1ml of BSA + 0.1ml HAuCl4 + 0.8ml of water place the tube in the heatblock (78°C) and leave it at constant temperature
  2. Tube B: 0.1ml of BSA + 0.1ml HAuCl4 + 0.8ml of water place the tube in the heatblock (78°C) and remove it every 30minutes (leave at room temperature for 10minutes)

Results

In the tube A, we obtained a purple solution whereas in tube B we obtained a clear solution with purple fibers.
